SK Hynix has officially announced a significant new facility investment for the construction of the Cheongju M17 plant. The investment is strategically aimed at securing a mid-to-long-term production foundation to meet the growing global demand for memory semiconductors.
The total investment amount is 19.1 trillion KRW (~$13.57 billion USD based on 1407 KRW/USD), which represents 15.83% of the company’s equity as of the end of the most recent fiscal year (120.67 trillion KRW / ~$85.76 billion USD). The investment period is scheduled to run from August 7, 2026, to April 30, 2031.
The decision was formalized during a Board of Directors meeting held on August 7, 2026, with all six outside directors in attendance. The company noted that the final investment amount and the project timeline may be subject to change depending on the progress of the investment and shifts in the business environment.
